20th January 1943
The British Sumatra Battalion were put to work laying sleepers and track. The rails and sleepers were brought up to the end of the last rail on four wheeled bogies. On the floor of the bogie were runners. Two kilometers of track were laid each day.
On the 5th April 1943, when the first 30 kilometers of track were laid, the British Sumatra Battalion and the Americans were moved to the 25 Kilo Camp at Kunhnitkway.
